My name is Laura...
...and welcome to my first blog post! You may have read the "About Me" section on my website, and that's great. But I would like to introduce myself in a bit more detail. Let's start waaaayyy back in the beginning.
The Teenage Years:
Then came high school. I attended Bishop O'Connell High School, a catholic high school in Arlington. It's a really fantastic school, and I had so many wonderful opportunities there.
And Then Came College:
At JMU I found my passion for filmmaking, sound design, and movies in general. I was a part of a bunch of different projects, including the creation of a 20 minute short film, from concept to final product, which was screened in a short film festival on campus, SMADfest.
I was a very active member of the Latino Student Alliance while at JMU, where I served as Secretary, Cultural Chair, and President. It's a wonderful student organization that brings together like-minded students to celebrate Latin culture. The year culminates in Celebración Latina, a semi-formal banquet, full of international food and performances, which raises funds for a scholarship that helps local Harrisonburg/Rockingham County students attend JMU.
I was surrounded by some I N C R E D I B L E people at JMU.
My faculty, who expanded my horizons, taught me to never stop looking for ways to learn and create, and always challenged me to do more than the bare minimum.
The student body, who is so inclusive and welcoming and passionate that it's impossible not to be inspired daily by the people you run into at JMU.
Basically, it was awesome.
P R E S E N T D A Y :
Well now I'm all graduated and ready to take on the world! I've made a commitment to expand my photography business (hence the new website and the blog). I also have a job with Verizon and ESPN doing live event streaming, I teach hip hop classes to 6-9 year olds, and I am a Spanish tutor.
I run my super cool instagram account, @lauraquinterophotography, where I post my work and day-to-day inspiration. I also help my sister out with her blog, Baking With Friends, where she posts delicious recipes that she bakes...with friends! It's a really cool project, and you should check it out.
I hope you enjoyed my little journey down memory lane, and that you learned something about me in the process. Keep an eye out for future blog posts about other fun projects I do.
As always, if you're interested in booking me, go ahead and shoot me an e-mail so we can chat about the details. I'd love to hear from you.
By the way, you're the best for reading all the way to the end. Thanks!
Lots of Love,
Welcome to the blog!
I'm the curly-haired introvert behind the camera :)
