Now, obviously, I want you to book with me (and if you want to, send me a note!). But I am not the right photographer for everyone. And finding one that's right for you can be tricky business!!
It's about more than just finding the best deal, the best bang for your buck. In your search, I'm sure you've seen so many different names, styles, and prices. And the variety is what makes this industry great! However, as a consumer, you need to make EDUCATED choices
These are my top 5 tips for finding the right photographer for you!
5. Start your search
Start by asking family and friends for recommendations! If they've worked with someone wonderful, they might be a great fit for you as well!
Use google AND social media to find your photographer. It is SO helpful to help you look beyond the first page of links on google when searching for a creative professional, and can bring people to your attention you may not have found otherwise!
Look through your potential photographer's websites and social media. Do you LOVE their work? If you don't love their images, their shooting style, their composition, their editing...you most likely wont like your final images.
4. The person
When you find a website you like, don't click straight over to the pricing or contact page. Spend some time exploring their "About Me" page and their social media (especially Instagram). Do you LIKE them? Do you have any shared interests? If you don't think you'll connect with them on a personal level, it will be difficult to be genuine and relaxed in front of their camera.
Now, I don't condone judging people simply by their social media, but I do think it's important to form an authentic relationship with your photographer, which is hard to do if you have nothing in common and don't enjoy their company!!
3. The package
Price is a big factor when choosing a photographer, but I firmly believe that you get what you pay for, and you should be clear on what you want from your photographer before you commit to them. Find out what comes with the price! Will you get what you're looking for?
If you want high quality prints and canvases but your photographer only offers digital downloads, they may not give you what you want. If you want all the digital files to print on your own, but the photographer only offers luxury print products, you'll be up for a rude awakening when the time comes to get your images.
There is no right way or wrong way to run a photography business, and everyone offers slightly different services. Just make sure you choose a photographer that will provide you with the experience and products that you're interested in.
Be clear and direct with your photographer as you communicate with them. Please don't try to haggle for a better deal. Photographers are business owners and experts in their fields. You wouldn't ask your surgeon for a discount, and you shouldn't ask creative professionals for discounts either.
Make sure your communication with any prospective photographers is clear and respectful. Even if you don't book with them, remember there's a person behind the screen reading your words and hoping to welcome you into their lives.
1. Trust your gut!
If you find a page you absolutely adore, go for it! Photography is an INVESTMENT, one that should be made carefully and joyfully!
Find a photographer that creates artwork that speaks to your soul, and invest with confidence. The images you receive will be cherished for many years and should be exactly what you're looking for!
I hope this was helpful!! I'd love to hear your feedback. Do you have any other helpful tips to find the perfect photographer for you? Share them in the comments below!!
