Back in April I had the pleasure to shoot an event near to my heart. I was an active member of the Latino Student Alliance while at JMU, and I served as Secretary, President, and Cultural Director on the executive board. One of the major events we put on was Celebracion Latina, an annual semi-formal banquet to raise funds for a scholarship that would help a local Harrisonburg/Rockingham County student attend JMU. The scholarship is entirely funded by this event.
Over the years, we raised a lot of money and allowed many young people pursue their college careers. This year's event was under the sea themed, and they raised over $2700 for the scholarship. There was a marimba band, dance performances, and even a live mermaid! It was a big success, and I'm so proud of this year's executive board for all they accomplished.
I kind of can't believe that it's already been a year since I graduated from college! It seems like such a short time ago that I was moving into my freshman dorm and getting ready for the crazy college adventure. Then, in what seemed like the blink of an eye, I was graduating. It's amazing how quickly time flies when you're having fun.
Now, I'm celebrating the graduations of some of my closest friends, and it makes my heart happy that they asked me to capture images of them on their campuses to remember such a big and important milestone in their lives. I'm honored to share some of my favorite images with you as we celebrate the accomplishments of these wonderful people.
